Benifits of Me Time

Monday, June 4th, 2018

Lately, I have been so busy with working two jobs, being a full time student, fundraising, and helping out my family so the other day I decided to have me time like I had promised I would in my New Year’s resolution list.  I have been doing poorly in that part of my resolution, but after my relaxing time, I am definetly doing it again. One day I ended up being free in the morning till 2:30 and I thought I can finally relax but I didn’t want to be in my house, so I went driving and ended up at a nails salon. The Salon was big, and it looked nice. The manager took me in quickly, and I got to do a pedicure and manicure with a free drink. They did a great a job with my nails, and I even got massages on my legs, feet, hands, arms, shoulders, and neck. Now that is a big deal because on my New Years resolution list I had put try new things and getting massages is something I would never do. The reason why I would have never done this is that I don’t like people touching me but when they were giving me a massage it actually felt good, but I did feel a little awkward at the same time. Anyways just doing that for myself relieved so much stress and I felt way better afterwards. I entirely think everyone should take a moment for themselves.

Benefits of Me Time:

  • Refreshed
  • Reduce stress.
  • Feel Energized.
  • You maintain a good sense of self.
  • You boost your mental well-being and self-esteem.

Best ways to study

Tuesday, April 24th, 2018

I’m still in college, and I’m happy that summer is coming up but since it’s coming, that means finals is coming very soon which is a dread. During this time I’m busy taking notes and studying for my exams, and while I was reviewing my notes, I thought I should share some tips. (BONUS: at the bottom, there’s a music list that I use when I study)

  • To begin if you are studying for an exam DO NOT CRAM. It honestly doesn’t help you it’ll just get you stressed, and you don’t retain the information.
  • When you’re studying you need to take breaks
  • in between studying you should do a little exercise. It increases performance, gives you longer attention span, and gives you more fluid problem-solving. I like to do Zumba on youtube.
  • Have a study group but make sure that the people you are with really do want to study.
  • Test your self on the information every now and then. When you do, you can see what area you need to work on.
  • If you are studying a book, annotate it. If you don’t know what annotate is it is when you add notes to a text. You write explanations or put comments like “I thought this paragraph is interesting” or you could just put symbols/doodles that means something like”?” which would mean that you don’t understand that section and you can use it to ask your teacher a question about it.
  • To study better, you need clear and precise notes. To do this, I personally have two journals one for class one for home. For the classroom journal, I write in pencil, and I just focus on write all the vital information, and once I get home, I take the home journal to recopy my notes but in color. I color coded it, so each color means something specific like red means it’ll definitely be on the test and blue means vocabulary, etc.
  • When you’re taking notes in class, and you feel like you cant catch up see if it’s okay to record the teacher’s voice that way if you miss something later on you can listen to the recording to get the information.
  • Don’t work on a bed usually with me I tend to fall asleep on mine even on the couch because its super comfy so if you’re in the same boat as me you have to work at a table or desk.
  • If you feel like you’re easily distracted at home because of the tv or because of your pet or even family you should go to the public library, the school library, a lounge, or a coffee shop.
  • Now if your phone is what distracts you put it on airplane mode or the do not disturb option.
  • Set a timer. This gives me a goal to reach every time. I feel like I work harder when I put a timer. you could also use an app called Forest (android) Forest (iPhone)
  • Schedule your studying time and make a to-do list to help manage your time.
  • A tip I’ve learned from one of my AP classes n High school is to write the vocabulary word and a simplified definition on a note card then on the other side draw a picture. The picture on it reminds you of the information. For example, the word truncate would be on the front then on the other side you would draw a tree trunk being cut, and that’s supposed to help you know that truncate means to shorten.
  • Personally, I listen to non-lyrical music while I study or do homework I think it helps but for some people, it may not.

Instrumental Music: Hans Zimmer , classical music , upbeat music

Disney , jazz

WHAT IS SHOPKICK?

shopkick

A couple of years back I decided to try to save and make a little side money so in my process I checked out a lot of apps that can help me and one of those apps is ShopKick. When I saw this, I wasn’t sure about it, but I decided to give it a shot. Thankfully I gave it a chance because I have been using this app ever since.

Here is some information you might want to know about Shopkick. First off you are able to use this app on a smartphone, iPhone, or tablet. This app offers users rewards for doing simple things at stores or online stores like walking into the stores and scanning items. You also can get rewards by making purchases online or in the store and you have to scan the receipt. By doing this, you will get rewarded with points that are called kicks and with those kicks you can exchange them for gift cards.

On-line purchases: For you to able to get kicks for purchasing online you would have to sync your card to the app and use the websites that are in the app to get the kick points.

Walk-ins: To get kicks for walk ins you have to have your Bluetooth on and the app open to receive it

Scans- For scanning, you have to see what items in the store has kick points and when you find them in the store you just scan the barcodes

In-store purchases: To receive points for this you need to have specific items that are in the app on your receipt

Fun facts: They have been around since 2009, and there are over 200 participating stores in the U.S. like Circle-K, CVS, Publix, 7-Eleven, Walmart, etc.

For me, this app is perfect because I use this for the starbucks, ultra and target gift cards since they are my favorites. Some other rewards that they have are tj max marshals homegoods, walmart, amazon, american eagle, feeding america, aerie, american red cross, best buy, ebay, lowe’s, nike, old navy, game stop, the chocolate factory, papa johns, sephora, itunes, amc, jcpenny, bed bath and beyond, foot locker, google paper, barnes and noble, groupon, uber, disney, outback, fandango, hotels.com, carrabba’s, saks fifth avenue, flowers.com, tory burch, tiffany and co.,  and lastly a vespa (this is my goal). For you to be able to get any of these you have to have a specific amount of kicks.

The other day I drank my first pumpkin latte of the fall season and it automatically got me to thinking about my fall plans that I want to do with my boyfriend and my family. Today this post will be about a couple of date ideas since I had made a list of dates I wanted to do a long time ago.

  • Halloween Horror Nights. I have never gone to one before so I’m excited to try it but honestly a little scared at the same time.
  • The art museum which I will be going to this Saturday since it will be free. Museums always have discounts and free days you just have to check their website to see.
  • Going to a fall festival/carnival. In those places, they usually have rides, food, games, candy, maze, hay ride, etc.
  • A cider and wine tasting.
  • Go to a football game
  • Hike in a scenic area
  • Have a picnic at the park blankets and all
  • Go to the farmers market on a Saturday morning. There’s always one where I live but I have never gone. I do know that there’s a lake there and you can walk around. They also sometimes show movies.
